House of Hearts is back at it again with the artist interviews, this time we are bringing New Jersey DJ and Producer Opifex. This producer brings multi-genre sounds with a full hearted message behind every song, and is certainly an artist on the rise. His next show to catch him at is Ghastly at the Club Ion opening in Philadelphia, May 13th. Check out what he has to say in our interview below:
HOH: So before we jump into the other questions, can you first tell us how old you are?
Opifex: I will be 22 on May 11th, which is actually 2 days before the Ghastly show at Club Ion.
HOH: You are on the line-up for the new venue Club Ion’s opening with Ghastly, what was it like to find out you were on the line up?
Opifex: I was ecstatic when I found out I was being booked on the Grand Opening of Club Ion with Ghastly, Kris Cayden, Alien Fuel, and Tydie. Sharing a stage with these artists is something I will definitely be looking back at as a milestone in my book.
HOH: Have you played with any of the artists on this line up before?
Opifex: This is the first time sharing the stage with Ghastly, but the rest of us have played events with each other before.
HOH: Recently artists playing back to back has been becoming more and more common, as well as a fan favorite for some shows, if you could go back to back with anyone who would it be?
Opifex: If I could go B2B with anybody it would be Opifex (b2b) Kris Cayden (b2b) Megalodon. Both are an inspiration to me and our styles meshed together would be out of this world!
HOH: Your recent success has been inspiring to those watching along, do you have any advice you would give a new producer before they even start mixing or making music?
Opifex: I would tell them, “make what you feel and the right crowd will listen.” and don’t be spammy haha.
HOH: Who do you make your music for? Could be yourself, a loved one, the world, etc.
Opifex: I aim to unite people with my music. Whether you’re jamming in the back tapping your leg, or up front headbanging, music is a universal language we can all feel, especially if it’s loud enough haha.
HOH: What has been your biggest break so far?
Opifex: My biggest break was when I decided to pursue music. I’ve been happier doing something that I love, and in a few years I hope i’ve made a career out of it.
HOH: What are your goals as a musician this Summer and Festival Season?
Opifex: One of my goals is to get to perform at least one festival this summer. I haven’t even attended a major festival myself yet, but I plan to go to my first one soon.
HOH: Last but not least, the recent death of music icon Prince was announced, what was your reaction, and do you think it affects the EDM Industry in anyway?
Opifex: The news was saddening to find out. I didn’t know much about Prince, but my heart was heavy for his family and friends, and day one number ones, I can tell he was a very respected man. The impact on EDM’s industry will be revealed over time, right now it’s hard to measure the impact it really has.
