On Saturday night DJ Icon and Heavygrinder went through one of a DJ’s worst nightmares. The two artists flew in all the way from the West Coast to play a show in Pittsburgh, but when their driver picked them up, he said the cops busted the party, and the show was cancelled. To clear things up, DJ Icon and Heavygrinder had the driver take them to the venue anyway. When they got there, no one in charge could be found. However, the sound crew told them the promoter “most likely” called the cops so the event would get cancelled, to avoid paying the artists. Since the DJs were only paid their deposit, and not their full fee, they had the driver track down the promoter to get the rest of their money.
When they arrived at what they assumed was the promoter’s house, the driver left the car with a gun in hand to go knock on the door. DJ Icon says it was at this point when she and Heavygrinder grabbed their DJ bags and ran away, fearing for their lives. After a while, they eventually met back up with their driver, and made it safely to their hotels. As of this writing DJ Icon says they still have not heard from the promoter, and it is unlikely that they will get their full booking fee. Heavygrinder has not issued a statement yet, but the full story from DJ Icon is below.
