HoH: Could you please first introduce yourself to our audience?
Artist name: Leaf
I’m a producer from the Isle of Wight, UK.
I got into drum & bass around 2008 when I was in high school. This gradually moved onto me buying a pair of decks and learning the ways... after a few years of mixing at house party’s and local clubs I decided to buy a mac and get into producing.. Since then I haven’t looked back! It’s a very enjoyable thing seeing people go crazy to something you’ve made in ur bedroom, Quite mad really..
HoH: First, I’d like to congratulate you on making the lineup for this years ‘Summer Gathering’ Festival at Donington Park Woods in Derby Leicestershire. The lineup looks stacked this year with the likes of Andy C, DJ Hype, Hazard… What date are you playing and what do fans have to look forward too out of you?
Thank you. I got signed a year ago to Random Concept who are running the drum and bass side of things at summer gathering this year. Really lucky to be on there as they are one of the biggest promoters’s in the u.k.
I’m playing on Friday night, I believe at 01:00. Expect a vibey set with lot’s of dub-plates at the ready.
HoH: Could you describe or draw on your experiences from playing in the UK clubs/dance halls.
It’s always fun Dj’ing no matter where you are. I’d say the club scene is a lot more darker/ dingy as to festivals where the vibe is a slightly different. You can get away with playing a lot more different music that you maybe couldn’t normally play in clubs.
HoH: What’s a typical night out for you and what’s that experience like from an artist standpoint?
A typical night out on a weekend involves beer, shots and vodka !!!
I don’t normally drink too much if I’m dj’ing out and about though. Wouldn’t like to be messing up mix’s etc..
HoH: How late do you guys go?
It all depends on where I am to be honest but If I’m in my home town then 3 or 4 in the morning when the clubs close.
HoH: You’ve been gaining support from artists such as Sub Zero & Noisia to name a few, I’d like to know to what degree does your love and appreciation go out to artists who take the time to play your records?
Im grateful to anyone who’s playing my music! I’m also uploading a new track for my supports as a free download to my soundcloud so maybe that’s one to look out for.
HoH: And is there a way you like to “pay it forward” to perhaps producers/aritsts first getting involved in producing music or playing out in the scene?
Im always up for pushing artists or dj’s to progress! It feels good knowing that you’ve helped someone less fortunate than your self to go further.
HoH: Tell us a little bit about your music. You dropped ‘Monsoon’ not even a week ago. What’s been the reaction from your fans?
Every tune I make seems to be slightly different in some kind of way. Keeps me interested in what im doing. Monsoon was one of those tracks I made that just seemed to work from the word ‘go’. I made it last summer, so a year ago now… Since then people have loved it. I was very taken back when I had the feedback form sent to me last week from the promo push. Some of the artists on there have been a big inspiration to me from the beginning.
HoH: What are you looking to produce further in 2016? Any special project we should know about?
I do have quite a few projects lined up but I can’t let anything out the bag just yet. Keep your eyes open though.
I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has helped me get this release out! Massive shout too Tobie and Graham for given me this opportunity!
Big up the supporters everytime.
